The Infectious Diseases (ID) Research 2-year Fellowship at Long Island University
(LIU) aims to train the next generation of ID pharmacist researchers. The
program focuses on clinically translatable research, including but not limited
to pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PKPD) optimization and strategies
to breakdown bacterial biofilms. The fellow will work collaboratively across
disciplines at LIU as well as at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center.
The program will provide fellows training with in vitro research experiments
(including but not limited to susceptibility testing, synergy testing, biofilm
assays, PKPD models) as well as clinical outcomes-based research at the James
J. Peters VA Medical Center. Opportunities may also be available in in silico
PKPD modeling. The fellow will have experiences needed to develop their
fundamental research skills, including proposal development, grant writing, and
manuscript preparation. As appointed adjunct faculty members, fellows will
gain experience in didactic teaching, laboratory facilitation, and precepting.
Program graduates will be prepared for careers in academia, clinical practice, or
pharmaceutical industry.
