Infectious Diseases/Antimicrobial Stewardship Pharmacist

The University of Tennessee Medical Center has an opening to join our pharmacy team. UT Medical Center is a Level 1 Trauma and Academic Medical Center for the East Tennessee Region and beyond. Our pharmacy team covers multiple specialty areas including trauma, emergency medicine, vascular surgery/transplant, general medicine, critical care medicine, infectious diseases, oncology, nephrology, cardiology, orthopedics, neurology, women & infants, and multiple ambulatory care clinics.  
 
The Infectious Diseases (ID) Pharmacist Specialist will join the current ID pharmacist team. Position responsibilities include: 
  • Consistent, robust, inpatient antimicrobial review via clinical surveillance software 
  • Maintenance and implementation of new, institutional clinical guidelines  
  • Rounding with the inpatient Infectious Diseases consult service 
  • Participation and steering in Antimicrobial Stewardship Subcommittee 
  • Provide education to physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other health care team members 
  • Student and resident precepting 
  • Inpatient staffing every sixth weekend; one major and one minor holiday per year; additional staffing outside of ID based on departmental needs  
Plans for expansion of new services or enhancement of existing services include, but are not limited to, the following: 
  • Emergency Department prescribing and discharge antibiotic review  
  • Ambulatory clinic antimicrobial use and prescribing reviews  
  • Antiretroviral Stewardship and review  
  • Beta-lactam allergy assessment, skin testing, and de-labeling  
  • Expanded diagnostic stewardship initiatives with the microbiology laboratory  
  • Adherence to expanded Joint Commission requirements 
Our clinical pharmacists provide quality patient-oriented care, prospectively developing pharmaceutical plans for each patient and ensuring optimal pharmacotherapeutic outcomes. All activities are done in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations with the health and welfare of the patient paramount.  
 
Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited school of Pharmacy, PGY1 residency training, and Tennessee Pharmacy License (or eligible). PGY2 Infectious Diseases residency or equivalent experience preferred.
