The IDPL is a Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA)-accredited, College of American Pathologist (CAP)-licensed, international reference clinical and research laboratory that provides therapeutic drug monitoring and clinical consults for serious infectious diseases, including tuberculosis, HIV, and fungal infections. The candidate should have experience working in a CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited laboratory focused on therapeutic drug monitoring, particularly related to the treatment of tuberculosis, HIV, and fungal infections. Additionally, candidates will have the opportunity to excel in teaching, scholarship, and clinical research.
Position responsibilities will include overseeing daily operations of the IDPL, which include providing clinical services at UF Health as well as other sites across the US and Canada. The lab operates year-round, Mon-Fri. Required skills include interpreting LC-MS/MS assay reports, with a focus on quality control parameters and potential deviations from normal or interferences with detector response. All clinical reports generated in the lab (currently >11,000 per year) must be reviewed, and clinical recommendations provided. Clinical consultation phone calls and emails will require expert replies. The lab provides assay and pharmacokinetic (PK) support for ongoing pre-clinical and clinical research trials. In addition to reviewing assay results, the Director will use PK analysis software to perform non-compartmental analyses (NCA) or population PK analyses. Familiarity with software programs such as Phoenix WinNonlin, Monolix, PMetrics and BestDose is necessary. The Director will oversee all personnel within the lab, including hiring, evaluations, counseling, accolades, sick leave, and vacation time. The Director will oversee all fiscal aspects of the lab, including reviewing current invoices, interacting with clients, reviewing overdue payments and collections, overseeing deposits, and managing the budget. The Director, in conjunction with the staff, will oversee all equipment maintenance, including preventive maintenance, and repairs. The Director will oversee all safety protocols for the lab and collaborate with Environmental Health and Safety regarding hazardous waste removal, chemical inventories, use of personal protective equipment, and the required annual training for staff and inspections for the lab. The Director will collaborate with infectious diseases clinical pharmacists and physicians at UF Health Shands Hospital to provide expertise and guidance on clinical protocols and patient care initiatives related to the therapeutic drug monitoring of anti-infective agents. Academic responsibilities will include didactic teaching within the PharmD program, advising students and student organizations, and actively participating in the Department and College.
