Enterprise Director - Clinical Pharmacy Services, Infectious Diseases

The clinical infectious diseases leader will be paramount to create standardization, efficiency, safety and cost savings while advancing clinical infectious diseases and antimicrobial stewardship practice and optimizing patient outcomes. They will do this through complex interdisciplinary relationship management via medical service lines, executive physician leaders, nursing and ancillary support as well as market- and enterprise-level pharmacy leadership.  Leadership across the entire enterprise will be dependent upon direct reporting structure as well as influence. Success in the role requires prioritizing enterprise-level affiliations and work over any potential, legacy affiliations at the regional or market level.  Clinical pharmacy operations help to manage the medication formulary and drive to organizational standards of practice across the enterprise and across the continuum of care. It is through standardization and synergy that we help to improve safety and contain costs to help manage over $3B in total pharmaceutical expense and provide over $12B in total operating revenue to Advocate Health.  

 

Major Responsibilities
 

  • Establishes effective, collaborative relationships with infectious diseases physician leaders in all markets as well as acute care and non-acute care physicians and service line leaders across the enterprise.   Effectively collaborates with key pharmacy and non-pharmacy stakeholders to advance the goals and objectives of enterprise antimicrobial stewardship and pharmacy practice working collaboratively to advance clinical infectious disease and antimicrobial stewardship pharmacy practice across the enterprise. Acts as a liaison for enterprise work in these roles.
  • Connects with interdisciplinary partners in medical staff acute care practice areas, nursing and other ancillary support areas regionally, as appropriate.
  • Leads or actively represents pharmacy services at antimicrobial subcommittees of P&T.
  • Direct leadership of regional infectious diseases pharmacy leaders.  Dotted line relationship to regional infectious diseases service lines leads, as appropriate.  Dotted line leadership of regional pharmacy acute care leaders, clinical and operational, as well as pharmacy infectious diseases shared governance committee leaders.  
  • Collaborates with operational and clinical pharmacy leaders across all regions and markets, including other enterprise clinical directors, to develop, implement, support, and optimize enterprise clinical infectious diseases and antimicrobial stewardship pharmacy services, and antimicrobial stewardship P&T subcommittee initiatives while working with pharmacy leaders, pharmacy subject matter experts, medical staff and nursing to advance infectious diseases and antimicrobial stewardship pharmacy practice across the enterprise.
  • Works in tandem with regional clinical acute care leaders to support regional accountability to enterprise P&T and clinical pharmacy practice standards. Collaborates with regional and enterprise pharmacy leaders to establish departmental objectives by establishing reporting systems and department performance standards.  Monitors enterprise performance and partners to establish action plans for optimization of performance to outcomes.  
  • Establishes effective relationships with regional pharmacy residency leaders to ensure infectious diseases pharmacy residency training aligns with enterprise infectious disease and antimicrobial stewardship care goals.
  • Effectively collaborates with data analytics stakeholders inside and outside the pharmacy department to source data necessary to demonstrate the value of and accountability to infectious diseases and antimicrobial clinical pharmacy services and antimicrobial stewardship P&T subcommittee initiatives.  
  • Takes an active role in the quality management system including supporting regulatory requirements and/or surveys related to antimicrobial stewardship. Promotes a culture of safety and continuous quality improvement by identifying safety and quality improvement opportunities and ensuring that opportunities identified are communicated, addressed, and improved.
  • Designs and directs the work of the assigned area(s) of responsibility. Selects, coaches, and develops teams, setting objectives that align with organizational strategy to inspire and motivate the teams. Manages organizational talent through performance management, succession planning, and development. Designs and directs processes by which team and individual performance are recognized, feedback is consistently delivered, and performance is systematically improved.
  • Develops and/or recommends operating and capital budgets and controls expenditures within approved budget objectives.
  • Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that people actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations, and laws applicable to the organization's business.
