The University of New Mexico Hospital (UNMH) is the state's only Level 1 Trauma and academic medical center with 600+ inpatient beds.  UNMH provides acute medical care for patients from New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and Texas.

Interact with some of the most diverse patient populations in the nation while training with Infectious Diseases providers in an interdisciplinary health care setting. New Mexico is endemic for unique pathogens, including hantavirus, plague, and Coccidioides. The Infectious Diseases PGY2 Pharmacy Residency at UNMH is tailored to give residents exposure to all aspects of the management of patients with infectious diseases.

The PGY2 resident will have the opportunity to round with adult infectious diseases, pediatric infectious diseases, the antimicrobial stewardship team, and train under 8 infectious diseases pharmacists. The resident will also follow patients longitudinally in various outpatient settings, including Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT), Hepatitis C, and/or HIV clinics.  There are multiple opportunities to precept and teach students from the New Mexico College of Pharmacy.  Staffing is every third to forth weekend covering Antimicrobial Stewardship.

Located in Albuquerque, the state's largest city boasts 300 days of sunshine, combined with mild, dry climate and four distinct seasons.  The Albuquerque area is centrally located to hiking, rock climbing, skiing, and biking.  It's home to the world's most photographed event, the International Balloon Fiesta which draws hundreds of thousands of visitors every October.  New Mexico has a large gastronomic culture, including distinct New Mexican cuisine and over 20 craft breweries.
