Inpatient Clinical Pharmacist Specialist – Infectious Diseases/Antimicrobial Stewardship

Rhode Island Hospital is seeking a clinical pharmacist specialist whose primary role will be providing infectious diseases (ID) focused pharmacotherapy and antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) services to hospitalized patients. 

Position activities include:  

  • Provide direct pharmaceutical care services by promoting the safe and effective use of anti-infective agents
  • Coordinate and maintain the antimicrobial stewardship program (ASP) in collaboration with the antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) physician director and affiliate-wide ID/ASP pharmacists
  • Prospective audit of antimicrobial use, review of all positive blood culture results, positive respiratory viral panel results, and asymptomatic bacteriuria with real-time intervention and feedback
  • Round with ID consult service(s)
  • Implement AMS initiatives to promote optimal antimicrobial use and measure impact of interventions  
  • Participate in anti-infective/AMS quality improvement projects in collaboration with pharmacy, infectious diseases, clinical microbiology, infection prevention, nursing, and quality 
  • Serve as an active member of the ASP Committee and Infection Prevention Committee
  • Ensure TJC, CMS and other AMS regulatory compliance
  • Serve as a preceptor to pharmacy residents (PGY1 and PGY-2 oncology, critical care), APPE pharmacy students, and infectious diseases physician fellows
  • Provide didactic lectures to local pharmacy, nursing, and physician assistant schools
  • Serve as a liaison between the Department of Pharmacy, Division of Infectious Diseases, and Microbiology Laboratory
  • Provide affiliate-wide antimicrobial stewardship weekend coverage every 4th weekend 

Job Qualifications: 

  • Graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy, Doctor of Pharmacy degree preferred
  • Licensed to practice pharmacy in the State of Rhode Island or eligible for licensure
  • Completion of a PGY-1 pharmacy practice residency and PGY-2 residency or 2-year fellowship in infectious diseases
